Champions of the South
Nashville, Tennessee • January 2013
To conclude an already promising invitational season, the UW Huskies
took their talents down south to Vanderbilt's Commodore Classic in
Nashville. After reshuffling teams only two weeks ago, Washington made
one of the strongest statements in program history!
Team 1237 took First Place, without losing a single ballot. After an early challenge by Middle Tennessee State University, the Huskies took on Georgia A, the reigning Commodore Classic champion. Up next was Rhodes A, who earned a Top-5 finish at last year's National Championship Tournament. To finish off the weekend, 1237 won two ballots against a then-undefeated Rhodes C team to win the tournament!
Team 1238, comprised of a majority of new, freshman mockers, had a great showing, too. After splitting their first two rounds against Georgia C and Rhodes A, they won all four Sunday ballots against Vanderbilt and Rhodes B to finish at 6-2!
Several members were awarded for their individual performances. Brent Powell took home a gavel for his defense closing role. Freshman Shannon Foss won her first career award with a perfect 20 ranks as a defense opener. Kyle Tong took home his first award as well, winning a statue for his portrayal of Frankie Fernandez.
