30th National Championship Tournament
Orlando, Florida • April 2014

The University of Washington was one of 48 teams in the nation to compete at the American Mock Trial Association's 30th National Championship Tournament. Coming into February, the Dawgs were among more than 500 teams nationwide hoping for a shot at the national crown. After the regional tournaments, that field was narrowed to 196. Those 196 became 48 after the opening round championships where UW finished with a perfect 8-0 record.
Washington started the weekend with a tough paring: Duke University, the 2012 national champion. It was a hard fought battle, but ultimately the Huskies came up a bit short. In Round 2, they split with the Bulldogs from the University of Georgia. The mockers rebounded with a strong round against Syracuse University and finished the season by splitting with the University of Delaware.
Though Team 1269 left Orlando without a team trophy, senior Rio Frazier was named an All-American Witness after a dominate performance portraying a theme part enthusiast. This award capped a string of award-winning performances for Frazier, who also took home individual honors at the Yale Invitational, Corvallis Regional, and St. Louis Opening Round Championship this season.
The National Championship Tournament annually marks the end of the mock trial season. This year, Washington will graduate a wonderful class of seniors that have devoted themselves to the program since they joined. Kaleigh Boyd, Alex Crown, Shannon Foss, Rio Frazier, Amy Hersh, Jake Mintun, and Stephan Yhann will be moving to the next stage of their successes and we wish them the best of luck.
