2015 Boise Regionals
Boise, Idaho • February 2015
The competitive season opens up each year with the Regional tournaments. There are over 25 regionals nation-wide and this year UWMT was assigned to Boise, Idaho. Normally, the team is able to drive to this event, however, Boise is just a tad too far away, so flights on some tiny aircraft were a must.
Team 1194 had the showing of the weekend. The A team swept all four rounds, including a highly-contested battle with UC Berkeley B, en route to a perfect 8-0 finish. More important than the record is that this success earned 1194 a spot at the Anoka, Minnesota ORCS, held in March. UWMT can still claim that it has advanced at least one team to ORCS each and every season in which it has competed.
Unfortunately, this tournament also marked the end for the members of 1195's season. After a very close first round loss to Berkeley, UW battled it out with three programs for the State of Oregon. Ultimately, they came close to advancing, but fell short by just a couple of ballots. Next year, they'll be back for vengeance though!
In addition to the one team trophy, three individuals also took home personal hardware. Taylor Deardorff and Lucas Heflin were recognized for their performances on 1194, while senior Kyle Tong earned a final outstanding witness award.
The next stop on the road to Nationals is the Anoka, MN ORCS, where UW 1194 will be pitted against other Regional tournament survivors for six coveted bids to Cincinnati!
