2017 Grand Ole Tournament
Nashville, Tennessee • November 2017

Fresh off the heels of their showing at the Bulldog Brawl in the last weekend of October, the Huskies travelled to Nashville over the first weekend in November to compete at the Grand Ole Tournament, hosted by Vanderbilt University.
This event is unique on the mock trial invitational circuit because it has teams performing as a two-team program, instead of as individual squads. The tournament opens with round-robin parings within a bracket of three schools. Our bracket this year featured us, Chicago University, and Rhodes College. In each of the first two rounds, one UW team faced off against a team from Chicago and the other UW team hit Rhodes. The sides and schools that each of our teams faced flipped between Round 1 and Round 2.
After that, both UW teams hit both Indiana University teams in Round 3 and then both Washington University (St. Louis) teams in Round 4. The Huskies enjoyed a nice Sunday, going 5-3 as a program, to end the weekend on a high note.
Special shoutout to first-year mocker Toshi Yanai, who earned individual honors for his witnessing on the prosecution, and came very close to double-siding with his work on the defense.
