2010 Irvine Opening Round Championships
Irvine, California • March 2010

Washington made its second consecutive appearance at the national Opening Round Championship in Irvine, CA.
With the first round random draw, the Huskies were paired against UCLA's A team, considered by many to be the best in the country. After a grueling round though, Washington survived with a +5, -1 split and was in good position to advance over the next three rounds.
After a double-ballot victory over Washington State in Round 2 though, UW was paired against the well coached and talented team from Irvine on their home turf, and lost both ballots by -1 and -11. A split against USC in Round 4 left the Huskies with a 4-4 record, once again just a few points shy of advancing to the National Championship.
Washington did not leave southern California empty-handed though: They were fortunate to receive the Spirit of AMTA Award for their collegiality and professionalism.
