2014 Emerald City Open
Seattle, Washington • December 2014
The University of Washington Mock Trial Program hosted its fifth annual Emerald City Open the weekend of December 6-7, 2014 in the beautiful William H. Gates Hall. Congratulations to both University of Arizona teams for winning first and second in this year’s tournament!
This year, the University of Washington program also had a strong performance. UW Team 1194 won Third Place with an impressive record of 5-3, while Team 1195 earned an honorable mention with a 4-3-1 finish. Five Husky mockers took home individual awards, the most of any school in attendance! Taylor Deardorff and Lucas Heflin earned outstanding attorney honors, while AJ Lupinski, Jonathan Wu, and Alex Melnik took home hardware for their witness portrayals.
Running an invitational is a difficult task that requires everything from finding a location for the tournament months in advance to running the tab room during the rounds. The Huskies would like to thank Lucas Heflin, the UW Tournament Coordinator and UW sophomore, for putting in so much time and effort to make sure this year’s tournament was successful. The UW Program would also like to give a huge thanks to the UW Law School staff, including Dean Le who delivered remarks at the opening ceremony, for providing a wonderful facility. Finally, we would like to thank all of our volunteer judges, without whom this tournament would not be possible.
