2015 Anoka ORCS
Anoka, Minnesota • March 2015
UWMT has done it again. For a third consecutive season, the Huskies are headed back to the National Championship Tournament! This past weekend, UW travelled to Anoka, Minnesota to compete for six spots to the 31st NCT, hosted by University of Cincinnati in April. The field included multiple teams that earned Top 10 finished at last year's championship.
Team 1194 started the weekend against Drake A (who ended up making it out), with a solid victory. After that, UW squared off against tournament-favorite UC Berkeley A (who also ended up making it out), finishing with a split decision that put us in a great spot heading into Round 3. Since Round 3 is paired so that teams should be hitting opponents of roughly equal strength, the Huskies drew Florida State's B team (who earned honorable mention at last year's NCT), with whom they split. So, with a record of 4-2, it all came down to a final round against Colorado College (who finished 8th at last year's NCT). And we won! UW took two ballots in order to finish with 6 wins, good enough for Third Place at the tournament and a bid to Cincinnati next month!
This year's National Championship Tournament is sure to be a blast. This season will mark the first time ever that a brand new case will be used at the NCT, meaning that schools will only have three weeks to learn and perfect their material. For all the other teams that have advanced, we'll see you there.
