2015 Grand Ole Tournament
Nashville, Tennessee • November 2015
UWMT started the 2015-2016 season by competing at Vanderbilt's new Grand Ole Tournament, one of the most elite invitationals in the country. Every single program in attendance brought home a trophy at last year's National Championship and holds a Top 30 power ranking this season.
The Husky mockers included ten new competitors that were brought on after a highly competitive tryout process. Traveling to Nashville to open the year was a great learning experience for all involved. The Huskies competed as a duo, with each team facing University of Virginia, New York University, Princeton University, and Rhodes College over the weekend. All four of those programs hold a Top 10 power ranking and have participated in the National Final Round in the past decade.
Washington--who was completely unstacked for the tournament, meaning veterans were paired with newcomers--fought valiantly in each round. Gold Team (#1195) came up short the rounds against Virginia, NYU, and Rhodes, but had an impressive showing in a solid victory over Princeton, the 2014 National Runner-Up. Meanwhile, Purple Team (#1196) split the first three rounds with NYU, Virginia, and Princeton, before losing a nail-biter to Rhodes in Round 4.
All in all, the prospects of the team are very strong! Preparations for the upcoming Emerald City Open (hosted by your very own, UWMT) have already begun. We look forward to hosting everyone this December!
