2016 AAMTI
Berkeley, California • November 2016
After taking on a terrific group of new members, UWMT started the 2016-17 season with a trip down to south to compete at the Average American Mock Trial Invitational, hosted by UC Berkeley.
The Huskies had a great showing. Each team finished with a winning 5-3 record, a program first in the state. Plus, the Dawgs earned five individual awards for their performances, more than any other program in attendance.
Currently, Teams 1366 and 1367 are unstacked, meaning new members are competing alongside veterans. Team 1366 jumped out to a fast start, taking two ballots off of Cal A and then two more off of Pomona A on Saturday. After splitting a close round with Brown, the mockers closed out the weekend with a tough loss to Cal B.
Team 1367 rebounded very well after dropping the opening round to Pomona A. After earning a hard-fought split with Cal A on Saturday, UW cleaned up on Sunday by sweeping rounds against Minnesota-Morris and Fresno State by large margins.
Veterans Alexandra Bartos-O'Neill and Natalie Garson both earned perfect, 20-rank attorney awards. And newcomers Nina Downey and Chelsa Edano (double sided) won witness awards in their first ever college mock trial showing! All in all, this was a great start for UWMT. Up next, the program heads to Yale University in early December. The tournament, hosted by the reigning national champions, will feature some of the best teams from around the country.
