2017 Gunslinger Invitational
Tucson, Arizona • January 2017

Like they do each season, UWMT stacked its teams over winter break and came out swinging in their final invitational of the year: the Gunslinger hosted by University of Arizona.
Team 1366 turned in a complete performance throughout the weekend, winning three of their four rounds and finishing with a strong 9-3 record. After taking down UNLV to open the tournament, the Huskies faced their only hurdle against Arizona in Round 2. But, the Dawgs rebounded well and took five out of six ballots on Sunday to close out the event. Second-year competitors Thomas Karagounis and Natalie Garson each won a witness award for their individual performances.
It was also a good weekend for Team 1367. After dropping a tough opener to Arizona State A, they also had a chance to take on UNLV and the result was the same as the other UW round: a three-ballot victory. Sunday featured two split decisions for the Huskies, as they took on two powerhouse California programs: Berkeley and Pomona. Congratulations to first-year Charlene Kwon on her first individual award!
Next month, UWMT will host the Seattle Regional for the first time ever. Regionals serves as the first elimination tournament en route to crowning a national champion in April in Los Angeles!
