2018 UCLASSIC
Los Angeles, California • January 2018
It was nice for both UW teams to travel down to LA for MLK weekend to attend UCLA's prestigious Sunset Strip Invitational Classic (UCLASSIC). The Huskies have attended the event in past years, but this time was the first with both UW teams in attendance. The group got some great exposure against some potential future opponents that they might face at the Regional or ORCS tournaments later in the season.
Team 1214 opened on Saturday with a strong start against Texas, taking both ballots by a wide margin. Next, UW took down UCLA's E team (UCLA is one of the largest and deepest programs every year) and then dropped a close round to eventual tournament champion Cal Berkeley. On Monday, Team 1214 wrapped up the weekend with a very close decision against USC, leaving the Huskies just out of range of a trophy. Though, this was the best finish UW has had at the tournament, and Sneha Indrajit earned her first career individual award as an expert witness.
Team 1215 had a tough early draw against two well-respected A teams from UC San Diego and Arizona. But, they quickly rebounded with a solid win against Arizona State and finished the tournament with a very close split with Stanford B. It was an impressive showing from UW's squad, as they faced three nationally-competitive teams over the weekend.
